Is the Ragdoll breed advised for allergy sufferers? This question is very dependent on your cats length of hair as a Ragdoll can have short or long hair. The Ragdoll breed can cause allergic reactions just like all other breeds, however, the short hair we have found to not be such an issue. It has been found the more frequently you brush your Ragdoll the less likely you are to have an allergic reaction. There is no such thing as non-allergenic cats, but you can find hypoallergenic cats, the Ragdoll breed is not considered to be hypoallergenic. Will my Ragdoll shed hair? Yes, Ragdoll cats do shed. It does depend on your Ragdolls length of hair as to how much he/she will shed but both short and long hair does shed hair. However we have found Ragdolls do not shed half as much as some other breeds do and mainly shed in the change of seasons. Nonetheless owning a Ragdoll will mean maybe having to vacuum a bit more often, but if you groom your furbaby regularly you will find it not to be much of an issue.
How often does my Ragdoll need to be groomed/brushed? There is no set amount you should brush or groom your cat but the more regularly you brush your Ragdoll, the less likely you are to have a reaction (if you are allergic). Brushing your Ragdoll (especially if he/she is long hair) regularly will assist in keeping their coat looking spectacular.
Are Ragdolls good with children? Having owned ragdolls through 3 pregnancies and having my children grow up with them, I am confident in saying ragdolls are fantastic with children. Ragdolls are very people orientated, all they want is to be loved by their families, as a result are very easy going with people of all ages. Occasionally you will find a ragdoll that probably isn't the best with young children, but this would be the result of previous experience or lack of socialisation at a young age. At Hugglebug ragdolls, as a family of 9, every kitten leaves to their forever homes having been cuddled by young children since a very young age and soon as they are old enough, joined into the imaginary games which are always more fun when you have kittens to play with. We do not cage our cats or kittens and as a result they roam freely around our house and spend their nights at the bottom of our beds, some find sleeping on the pillow beside my toddler, or better yet on her head very comfortable. So we are confident in saying all ragdolls leaving Hugglebug, as well as most other catterys, are great with children and are very patient with all the imaginary games they get pulled into.
